The Realme buds Air and Mi truly wireless earphones 2 are two of the most promising options in regards to the budget segment of truly wireless earphones, but does the Mi truly wireless earphones offer better value than Realme buds Air? That’s exactly what we’re going to find out in this blog.

I’ll start off by talking about Sound quality as that’s the most important aspect of an earphone. So I’ve been using Mi truly wireless earphones2 for over a week now and I initially thought that the Larger drivers will end up producing better bass and improve overall sound quality but that is definitely not the case. So this proves that larger drivers don’t always mean better audio quality. But I’ll give Mi Credit as they produce more sound at lower volume levels and that’s pretty much it. So to put it simply, Mi truly wireless earphones doesn't sound better than Realme buds Air and to test that If possible try both these earphones and see for yourself and you’ll be surprised by how nearly identical they both sound.

When it comes to Call Quality Mi is slightly better in comparison to realme, the other person was able to hear richer audio whenever I’m using Mi truly wireless earphones. Mi truly wireless earphones have richer audio and the Realme buds Air seems to be doing a better job when it comes to noise canceling.

Xiaomi made a poor design choice by incorporating a thick stem if you look at the Realme stem, it’s thin and it has an overall understated design which I personally like. Fit and finish as well is better on Realme. The Realme buds Air also has better Noise isolation as they have a snug fit compared to Mi truly wireless earphones, of course, both have half in-ear style design but comparatively speaking Realme has a better fit. Even the case of Xiaomi’s is bigger.

The only advantage for Xiaomi is it has better battery life and also faster charging. Realme buds Air lasted 2 and a half hours at 80% audio level whereas Mi Truly wireless earphones lasted 3 and a half hours at 80% audio level. Mi truly wireless earphones also charges the case faster, it takes just 50 minutes to charge the case fully. Whereas Realme took 2 hours to fully charge the case.

There’s no dedicated Gaming mode or a low latency mode with the Mi truly wireless earphones but with Realme buds Air thanks to the R1 chip you get a Gaming mode where you can experience a negligible amount of latency whereas with the Mi truly wireless earphones the latency is bad, it would’ve been nice if they’ve given a low latency mode. But that said Realme buds Air only lasts 30-45minutes in the Gaming mode which can be annoying for some people who want to have long gaming sessions.

You must also be wondering how well these things hold up in the gym with us sweating a lot, well both these earphones don’t have an official IP rating but they both can handle sweat just fine.

Now I quickly want to mention a few issues that I faced with both these earphones. You can pause the song on Mi Truly wireless earphones by pulling out either one of the earphones but on Realme you have to pull out a left earbud, I have also seen some people complaining that in-ear detection isn’t working on Realme but as I mentioned earlier you have to pull out the left earbud to pause the audio. I like the audio cue that Mi truly wireless earphones give when you put them in your ear, something that Realme buds Air only gives when they’re connected but with Mi truly wireless earphones you get an audio cue every single time you put them in your ear which I think is a really nice touch, it adds to the overall experience. When the battery is low the Mi truly wireless earphones act weird, instead of giving an audio cue or saying battery low, it simply skips audio for a second which can be very annoying over a period of time. And also there were moments where it randomly plays & pauses audio in some instances and I’ve seen so many people reporting the same issue. Speaking of issues Realme can fix them with their app and firmware updates thanks to their Realme link app, something that Xiaomi cannot do.

Now Let’s compare the price, If Cost to value ratio is taken into consideration Realme offers better value at a lower price because Realme buds Air offers pretty much everything that Mi Truly wireless earphones2 offers at even lower price hence the reason why Realme buds Air is a more compelling option.

So after all this, you must be thinking is the Realme buds Air the obvious choice? Well for the most part yes. There’s Nothing nice to say about Mi Truly wireless earphones 2 other than slightly better Call quality, Much better battery life & quick charging. Had Mi Truly wireless earphones 2 offered better sound I would’ve said go for it but there’s no reason to recommend it over the Realme buds Air especially considering the price difference.
See you in the next blog.
